Andy Mikutta re-joined our sales team!

Actually, Andy is not only a T+M veteran but also an audio expert for many years. He used to work for us as our sales manager ages ago. After a short intermezzo of only 10-odd years we are glad to have him back on board. He will fill Michael’s position as our sales director for Yellowtec. Those who met us on IBC could already say hello. All others will hopefully meet him soon. Andy took over on 4th October. We wish you and Andy a prosperous collaboration!

Clear Channel NY utilises m!ka arms

Once headquarters of AT&T, a historic building on Sixth Avenue, is again a focal point of media...

Once headquarters of AT&T, a historic building on Sixth Avenue, is again a focal point of media technology! It has become the new home of Clear Channel’s New York FM operations.

Josh Hadden, director of engineering and IT for Clear Channel’s New York operations:

"AT&T was chosen because it was in Manhattan and convenient to almost all the subway lines and mass transit gateways in New York City". The building was the point of origin for the first transatlantic cable, and the end points of the first around-the-world phone call in 1935.

The Clear Channel complex consists of 29 studios. There are two identical air studios for each of the five FM stations: WAXQ, WLTW, WHTZ, WKTU and WWPR. Key suppliers of studio equipment for the project included SAS for mixing consoles and routers, Omnirax for custom studio furniture and Telos for phone systems.

David Holland, a designer for Omnirax:

"Josh wanted something innovative and sexy. We envisioned a modular design based on a futuristic mother ship with up to three guest pods. The whole thing looks like it is floating." m!ka microphone and monitor arms have become part of the implementation.

Josh Hadden:

"I chose m!ka microphone arms because I wanted something sleek looking and without visible springs, and also with an integrated monitor arm, and the Yellowtec product fit the bill. It definitely adds the needed ’look’ to make the place look like some space age studio - and the aluminium finish matches my SAS Rubicon consoles nicely as well!"

Looking at Yellowtec's latest development on AES exhibition in Barcelona you may think of b-line as a Digital ISDN / POTS Hybrid. Have a closer look at the unit and its accessories and you will see that b-line is even more a small, but outstanding screener system - an unbeatable price/performance ratio included!

As compact, yet complete digital hybrid b-line offers you many alternatives [Two in One]: ISDN and POTS (analogue a/b), AES/EBU and balanced analogue, PreTalk and OnAir interfaces, GPI/O and DTMF (option). Nevertheless b-line is no more complicated than your mobile phone.

Using b-line as 2-line phone/screener system you have the choice between Talkmaster® Software and b-line Keypad (option), i.e. you may operate b-line from a touch-screen-optimised software window or from a compact, low profile keyboard. Anyway, both will give you direct access to all the important functions and features like PreTalk, Hold, On Air, Drop, speed dial memory, phone book, 0-9 numeric keypad.

Hundreds of potential buyers tried to get a sneak preview on the powerful and intuitive microphone with integrated recorder on NAB in Las Vegas.

Unlike competitive products with added capsules or recorders, iXm overcomes the imbalances in microphone and recorder performance by creating a truly integrated, simple and top performing product.

iXm always sounds right. Microphone heads have been optimized for high speech intelligibility and low handling noise sensitivity made by German specialist Beyerdynamic. The heads are exchangeable to suit varying recording environments. Omnidirectional, cardioid and supercardioid pick up patterns will be available.Capsules are automatically detected for automatic gain and DSP adaption.

iXm utilizes an intelligent levelling algorithm of unmatched reference quality enabling the reporter to fully concentrate on the interview. It combines a slow acting gain leveler with a look-ahead peak limiter and avoides ADC distortion by converting the microphone signal twice. Files are stored on an exchangeable SD memory card as WAV, BWF or MP2.

iXm enables simple and silent recording. Yellowtec, known for making products simple and smart, has come up with a recording section you cannot make simpler or smarter. It comes with just two buttons Record and Stop and three indicators.

"Overall, I was impressed with the ease of operation and sonic performance of the PUC" says Stephen Murphy, former editor of Pro Audio Review magazine, and engineer/producer with 20 years experience in audio, radio and video production.

The PUC is truly plug-and-play in that it requires no installation of drivers other than those automatically loaded by the host operating system.

Electronically balanced analog audio I/O is provided through Neutrik XLR-F and XLR-M stereo pairs. Digital audio I/O is through a pair of heavy-duty RCA connectors (SCMS-enabled SPDIF format). Yellowtec also offers an AES/EBU version of the PUC.

GPI controllable features also include: zero latency monitoring (ZLM), which feeds the signal appearing at the analogue inputs directly to the analogue outputs, bypassing computer processing delay; digital bypass (BYP) ... and internal level (INT LVL), which sets the analogue level to the standard 0 dBFS = +18 dBu.

Yellowtec's new product line for mounting and positioning microphones and monitors. m!ka supports an integrated understanding of modern studio design: it is not a single function, form or product, but rather the whole solution that creates an unmatched experience of highest comfort and pleasure at work.

m!ka’s design is outstanding. The Mic Arm’s outer appearance remains simple while its inner construction guarantees a perfect performance. Its elaborate internal linkage and coil spring construction supports heavy microphones up to 2kg (4.5 lbs). It remains virtually silent during position adjustments. And m!ka Microphone Arms come ready to go, internally wired. View its streamlined profile, and you will understand our passion for Bauhaus style architecture.

As if this weren’t enough, the Microphone Arm comes as just one part of an open and modular system. The multifunctional MSS Pole forms the backbone of the m!ka system solution. It can be used as an extension for the Microphone Arm and as a support for multiple flat panel monitor mounts – at the same time. Thus saving space and allowing for concise monitor and microphone arrangements.

In other words: the m!ka Microphone and Monitor Support System (MSS) helps you to restore order to your microphone and monitor arrangement.

I was seeking a new approach to the predictable time-honored wisdom in regards to microphone arms. What has been a given for decades would look like a holdover from the Jurassic Period in the new control room.

Various attempts have been made in conventional arms to suppress the groan and twang of springs. But they can still be heard when the arm is moved or bumped. Not to mention they produce their own resonant melody when the speakers are cranked up good and loud.

Searching the Internet turned up a radical new design: Mika by Yellowtec in Germany. This is exactly what I had been searching for and more. The style was simple and streamlined, resembling a sleek robotic arm.

The construction consists of hollow, rounded, rectangular side tubes with internal linkages. Three joints and a swivel base provide movement in all directions. Color finishes are available in natural aluminum or dark gray. The two main segments of the arm are each 15.75 inches long capable of supporting a sizeable microphone and mount.

The construction consists of hollow, rectangular tubes with internal linkages. Holdback friction is set by a finger adjustable clutch plate on each of the three moveable joints. It can be locked tightly in place or set to offer slight resistance to accommodate various weights of microphones.
